The Sky Above My Land! |
A durian tree struck by lightning |
Hello everyone! Welcome to "New Place, New Start".
Why do I call this "New Place, New Start"?
Welcome to my new world! Two years ago I retired from the corporate world after 27 years and began my new life as a "retiree".
Well, immediately after resigning from my job, we moved to this place, Sungai Kembung, which is 15km from the company housing we had stayed in for 2 years. Sungai Kembung (malay for "swollen river") is an idyllic village 40km from Kuala Lumpur. It is not my hometown; my husband and I have no families nor friends here. For the past ten years, my husband raced through this village two or three times a month when he goes to attend religious classes which is a further 9km from here. He still wonders at how we ended up putting in roots here! Those times he dashed through the area, it never crossed his mind that our future would be here.
So, I am still establishing a new lifestyle, making new friends, doing different things, exploring yet another place. We have a two acre orchard which came with many varieties of fruit trees and this land is where we are planning to build a house, rear some chickens and maybe goats (for own consumption), plant our own food.
It has been two years, so a lot has happened. I will share how we ended up here, the things we've been doing and experiencing and relflect on things I've learnt in live. Why include reflections on my previous life? Well, at this age, there's a lot more "past" than future. Whenever I think about where I am now, I inevitably find myself thinking back to the things I did or didn't do which I would like to share with younger people. Once in a while I compare the life I lead to the one I am experiencing. New things and experiences will lead us to compare to things we experienced in the past.
New scenery, new people, new routines. Better than the past? Let's see....
